"Optimism is the belief that things will get better. Hope is the belief that, together, we can make things better. Optimism is a passive virtue, hope an active one. It takes no courage- only a certain naivety- to be an optimist. It takes courage to sustain hope."
What is Hope For Puerto Rico?
My name is Alicia, and I am the founder and creative mind behind Hope for Puerto Rico (HFPR). I started HFPR as an Instagram page because I was so frustrated by the lack of news coverage for Puerto Rico after hurricane Maria. I decided I was going to seek out the information about recovery efforts myself and post it all in one place, so other people could easily find it too. I have also used it to share my story of adoption and my search for my biological relatives, some of which I knew lived in Puerto Rico. I established a website and additional social media accounts that are growing every day, and currently have over 5,500 followers across 3 platforms, with a majority on Instagram- @hopeforpuertorico. There is a need for this type of resource, and I have found a way to address it with Hope for Puerto Rico.
I have spent the last year and a half learning and growing my brand from the ground up. I have obtained my followers organically and have not used any apps or services to boost my follower numbers. I have learned there is a major lack of quality comprehensive internet presence for Puerto Rico, and I want to change that. My years spent working in the wireless industry have given me an understanding that few others have of how to utilize technology, social media, and the internet. I have learned there are many people across the world that care about Puerto Rico, and I want to bring them together by making Puerto Rico more accessible through the internet connected devices they use every day.
My goal is to continue to grow Hope For Puerto Rico into the leading online resource for anyone seeking out information about Puerto Rico, reliable non-profits, and Boricua owned businesses so we can spend our time and money with organizations that are directly impacting our island and people. Thank you for visiting my page and for your support!
